The snow has finally melted here and the sun this morning was bright and promising but chilly. It doesn't feel like it's still winter but it's not quite spring either. We are at the "in between." Everything outside seems to be still but inside we are busy. The gardens have been mapped out for the season, a few seeds have been started, soil has been ordered and we are ready to get growing. Next week we start outside. There's always a couple of weeks of cleaning up from winter storms, prepping beds and getting those few early crops such as peas and greens started. After that, well, it's usually pure chaos. The good kind- digging, planting, weeding, harvesting and welcoming visitors.
There are a few new and exciting things happening this season. We are adding a medicinal herb and flower garden (I've been working my way through a Clinical Herbalism Program), adding a larger berry patch, an asparagus bed and setting up some U-pick areas. There is a lot to do and yet it's not overwhelming. It's exciting.
This is a place of joy. The excitement of those first sprouts, buzzing classes of kids pulling up in the school bus, anxious to meet horses and hens. There is always a LOT of work to do- but we love it. We thrive in it. We recognize how fortunate we are to have this space around us and it's why we love to share it. We are now booking school and daycare visits for May and June. Contact us soon to book yours. We are also in the planning stages of our Mother's Day Weekend Plant Sale. Visit our Facebook and Instagram pages to keep up to date on what's happening here. We look forward to sunny days and catching up with you happy visitors!
